KNX planning: from floor plan to ETS.

Good KNX planning starts with everyday life in the building: which lights should switch together? How should blinds respond? What happens when you leave home? The PLAN2X approach brings these requirements together in a shared data model.

Discuss your planning
A room and its digital model illustrate the coordination of lighting, shading and button assignments

Plan functions before choosing products

Record the functions each room needs in the floor plan. Assign lighting, shading and controls before selecting specific KNX devices. This creates a shared starting point for discussions between homeowners and their contractor.

Agree on controls and changes

A button may control a single light or a scene. Clear button assignments and documented client approvals help identify misunderstandings early. Changes need to remain traceable to the current planning version.

Connect implementation with ETS

ETS remains part of a KNX project. PLAN2X is being developed to provide approved planning data for programming through an ETS SDK application. Qualified professionals remain responsible for verification and commissioning.

Planning example: living room lighting and shading

A living room needs ceiling lighting, a pendant above the dining table and blinds. The entrance keypad is assigned specific functions. A “TV” scene describes the desired lighting and shading settings. Suitable devices and their technical implementation are selected after these requirements have been agreed. This simplified example illustrates the workflow; it is not a completed client project.

PLAN2X is in development. These workflows describe our product approach. We will discuss available features and suitability for your project with you directly.

Common planning questions

Does PLAN2X replace ETS?

No. Our approach connects the planning that precedes ETS with subsequent implementation. ETS and the responsible electrical professional remain part of programming, verification and commissioning.

When should KNX planning begin?

When a suitable floor plan and initial usage requirements are available. Agree on functions, control locations and requirements with your contractor before electrical installation begins.

How do visualisation and IoT fit in?

Control interfaces and IoT connections should follow the intended applications. The compatibility of devices, interfaces and external services needs technical assessment for each project. KNX devices are not automatically compatible with every IoT system.

What helps with future maintenance and extensions?

An up-to-date data model records rooms, functions and assignments clearly. The PLAN2X digital twin is intended to provide a foundation for preparing precise future changes for ETS.
